275 walk in solidarity against hunger and poverty

     Once again, we were blessed with another warm, sunny afternoon to Walk in solidarity as we took a stand against local and global hunger and poverty. It is always inspirational to witness 'new' churches and organizations join this interfaith mission as we work together to help bring help and hope to our sisters and brothers in need.


     Approximately 275 walkers representing 27 groups participated.  It was wonderful to have a group of students from Lexington Catholic HS join us along with Central Baptist Church, Bluegrass United Christian Church and Lawrenceburg United Methodist Church. To date we have raised approx. $18,000....with a few more groups still collecting. :)  I recognize that the initial hopeful goal of $30,000 is not attainable at this time, but we will aim for that next year.

     Do remember that the online donation site is available through March 2013.  Since we truly don't need any more 'stuff', once again, this is the perfect gift suggestion to your family for your Thanksgiving and Christmas gifts. God's Pantry and CWS need our support all year long.

     Abundant THANKS to my team, recruiters, and volunteers for your time and energy with making the 2012 Greater Lexington CROP Hunger Walk a success! It was my honor to work with each one of you and I'm definitely looking forward to doing so next year! The 2013 Walk will be SUNDAY, Sept. 29th with a Recruiter's Rally in mid August.

Walking for clean water

          How far would you walk for a sip of water?  Maybe across the shopping mall?   On Sept. 30th we're gathering together with others in our Central Ky. community to WALK for a better world, to WALK for people who have to walk miles just to find clean water to drink.  Come out and WALK with us.  You'll be doing good and it's good for you!

         You will also be Walking to support the work of our local God's Pantry.  They still need to reach approximately 100,000 more people in need in Central and Eastern Ky!

         Thanks to everyone for the gifts they have already donated on line!  To date, the most ever at this time - a week before the Walk: $4,239.00!

          See you Sunday, Sept. 30th, 3:00 PM at 2nd Presbyterian Church.  Remember, NO FEE for registration.  The 3 mile experiential Walk begins at 3:30 PM.  Bring a non-perishable food item for God's Pantry!

Walking together to take a stand

....and each one of us can make a difference in the lives of ALL our neighbors, near and far, by walking together to take a stand against hunger in our world.

The Greater Lex. CROP Hunger Walk is open to everyone concerned with the moral issues of hunger and poverty. There is NO registration fee when you arrive at 3:00 PM Sunday, Sept. 30th at Second Presbyterian Church, E.Main/Ransom St., Lex. KY. The 3 mile experiential Walk begins promptly at 3:30 PM.

Just bring at least one friend!, a non-perishable food item for God's Pantry (can meats and peanut butter are really needed), and your water bottle to be refilled at the water stop along the route. The Walk logo T-shirts will be available for sale too.

As of Sept. 10th, 30 churches/school groups/organizations have committed to 'Helping End Hunger One Step at a Time.' 11 Teams are already receiving on-line donations at www.cropwalkonline.org. WOW! $2,475 just now. (The on-line site is available through March 2013.)  You also have the option to set-up your own, personalized fundraising 'Team.' Just follow the simple instructions, which include Walk registration, at www.cropwalkonline.org.

2012 CROP Walk Goal Set

The 24th Greater Lexington CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) Hunger Walk is Sunday, September 30, beginning with registration at 3:00 p.m., at Second Church, which is the host church. 25% of the funds received will be donated to God's Pantry and 75% to Church World Service (CWS) for global needs.

Last year 25 area churches/organizations representing approx. 290 walkers raised $23,899--our most productive Walk yet! This year's interfaith community goal is $30,000.
